10 Tips To Reduce Anxiety

Updated: Mar 23, 2021

With everything that is going on in the world, anxiety has become an even bigger problem than it was before. But rest assured that you CAN take control of it.

Below, we have put together a few tips you can use right away to quell your anxiety.

1. Deep breathing

Sit in a calm place, close your eyes, and pay attention to your breathing. Take deep breaths, and focus as you inhale and exhale. You’ll feel better and more in control almost instantly.

2. Meditate

Enjoy your own company. Spend some quality time with yourself, start with just 10 minutes a day, and this will fill your life with positive energy. Close your eyes and clear your mind. If thoughts come in just focus on your breathing and let them go. Don’t focus too much on trying to get rid of thoughts as you’ll work yourself up even more. Just relax and spend time with your eyes closed.

3. Indulge in self-care

There’s no love bigger than self-love, and we mean it. Splurge in a spa, book an appointment at your favorite salon – just do whatever makes you happy.

4. Declutter

If there’s too much mess around you, or you cannot find those earrings from your last outing, chances are that there’s too much stuff clogging up your living space. Organise things properly and get rid of unwanted stuff; you’ll instantly feel better.

5. Go to bed early

Try hitting the hay early tonight, and this will improve your quality of life immensely. You’ll wake up with more energy and better concentration.

6. Wake up about 15 minutes early

Don’t spike your adrenaline levels and feel stressed early in the morning just because you’re late for your meeting. Wake up early, dress up, and have a pleasant start of the day.

7. Check your intake

Limit your caffeine, sugar, and processed food intake as they only help to worsen anxiety. Instead replace them with healthier alternatives.

8. Your feelings are not facts

Remember, whatever you are feeling, you can change those through positive thoughts. If you are feeling demotivated or generally down, you can change them. Start the day with positive affirmations such as “I am healthy, I am successful, I am learning” to get you in the right frame of mind for a good day. If you have a bad feeling acknowledge it but do not attach to it. You can get through ANYTHING!

9. Challenge negativity

Challenge negativity. If you generally have a negative mindset, or you feel a rant is about to take place, just acknowledge that you are about to entertain some negativity and instead replace it with something positive.

10. Be grateful

Gratitude, gratitude, gratitude - We could not advocate a daily gratitude routine enough. Every morning, perhaps just after your meditation, make sure to list 5 things you are grateful for. Even if you have nothing, there are things such as your health, friends, family etc that you can be grateful for.
